The Old Bridge, Hummingbirds and Horses!!

Yesterday Sherry (our designated driver), Trish (our designated trip planner) and I (our designated photographer) enjoyed a very full day. The events recorded in this post took place in sight of one another with the exception of the flower shots and took a total of probably thirty minutes of our day. Best I can remember, all the photos were taken with my cell phone.

After a great lunch at Frankie's at the Casanova in Pecos, New Mexico we toured the Forked Lightning Ranch that was once owned by the famous actress Greer Garson (many photos to follow on another post). During lunch we met, Brian, and he told us to take a side trip straight up the road from Frankie's after the tour to Cowels and see the hummingbirds. He said it was a beautiful twenty mile drive along the river up into the canyon. It was one way end and the turn around and drive back to get out.

So, we did...

We come to a fork in the road and our tour director, Trish, makes an executive decision to go to the left toward Holy Ghost. But, first, I jump out with my cell phone and snap a couple quick shots of the old bridge...

Sherry drives up the one lane road till it ends. It, too, is one way in and one way out. At he end of our drive we come to a bumbling brook and some beautiful wild flowers. Trish and I beg Sherry to stop so we can take a photo or two...

Then it is on back to the bridge and Cowels...

In the right corner of the above photo you can see the country store that we later learn is the site of the hummingbirds. We drive past on go on to further adventures. But, for sake of the story, I will only go to the hummingbirds and horses in this post...

While shooting the photos of the hummers I look over to the horse pasture and saw the horses being moved to greener pastures for the evening...

Happy Trails!!
