KEVIN MACPHERSON -- Artist

Our friends, Kevin & Jo DeKeuster of Enchanted Circle Pottery, encouraged Evin and me to visit Kevin Macpherson, an internationally known artist, who lived just a mile or two down Hwy 64 West from them.

So we drove down and turned left at Valle Escondido. I stopped to take a flower photo or two and one of Kevin's neighbors stopped by as recounted in the PUPPY PATHS post, Distraction!!. Their neighbor informed us that the Macphersons were in Guatemala; but, gave us directions to their home and studio. So I found their house and knocked on the front door and Kevin came out and I learned they had just returned home. He introduced us to Wanda, his wife, and they graciously invited us to visit his studio. I strongly suggest calling before visiting.

Kevin's bio notes. "Kevin is recognized as one of America's most accomplished impressionistic plein air artist. ...His work has been featured in more than 75 publications, books, television series and video. ...Throughout his career he has devoted significant energy nurturing the next generation. Today finds him more energized, bringing art and joy to the aspiring hearts of underprivileged children especially in Central America and China with his foundation, 'Art Ambassador for a Colorful World,' artambassador.org."

Kevin's book, Reflections On A Pond:  A Visual Journal, is a series of 368 oil paintings at different times of the day and night in all seasons of the pond (shown above in one of his paintings) that presents a majestic view looking out his living room window in Valle Escondido east of Taos.

  1. Kevin's work is stunning and humbling. i am awed to know about him. certainly his art is right up there with any great master of the previous generation. But mainly I want to tell you, steve - your portrait of the three is the most amazing, perfect portrait ever made. divinely relaxed and spontaneous, yet perfect lighting and composition. The expressions are a TEN. So when they use it on the cover of their next book or article, i hope your name will always be with it as a credit line. See you soon, friend!
