104 Degrees In The Shade!!

In July 2012, we were in Moab, Utah. Everyday for the week we were there, as best I can remember, it never was less than 104 degrees. Many, many movies have been filmed in the Moab area. "The Lone Ranger" (set to be released in July 2013 with Johnny Depp as Tonto) was being filmed while we were there. Traffic was often stopped as there was often filming in the scenic areas.

One of  several olde trains being used in filming that we saw being pulled by semi-trailer trucks.

Come along with us for an afternoon's drive. Some of the photos I will paint and some I won't. Below is example of a photo as taken and then the same photo painted. To me, the painted ones look like illustrations or comic bookish...

As taken.

Painted.

What do you think? Which do you like better?

You will soon see why Utah Highway 128 is designated as a "Scenic Byway"!!

Camping of the banks of the Colorado River. This could be "RV PAINTER" and Melissa. This photo is taken looking toward the East...

This photo is taken looking toward the West...

This view?? Or...

...a little further down the road with a little painting on the side?!?!?

Kayaking on the Colorado.

Wanted to give you an idea of the height of the canyon walls...

Young college students, working as movie production assistants, were all along the highway...

A peaceful valley.

I like photos of fences and "No Trespassing" signs.

One view...

Same view, a little different angle and distance.

The old suspension bridge.

Cattle country.

A scene from the past. Where we turned around and headed back west.

Different views going in the reverse direction. Different light...

A little closer to the tree.

My photo does not do this scene justice.

By now you know I have this thing about rivers, canyons, gates, fences, cattle crossing barriers, road signs and vehicles... This photo opportunity covered a lot!!!!!!

Shadows were starting to take over so it almost time to put the camera phone away...

Just another shot or two...

Appears a good place to end this post. Hope you enjoyed riding along...

Bill and Linda, I just did this post especially for you. I hope it convinces you two to take the same trip.

Is the "Lone Ranger" still being filmed in the area????

  1. We loved everything about the Moab area except the road construction and the heat. The drive along Potash Road was a highlight for us, too. Just an FYI, we left Creede, CO a couple weeks ago where they filmed another part of The Lone Ranger. They did the filming there before going to Moab. I think they are filming in Albuquerque right now. They are planning to film the sequel in Creede next summer.
